Evan:

Pictures and Stories

by Priscilla Kendrick

I wanted to tell about Evan (almost 4, Down Syndrome and Spina Bifida) yesterday at the speech and physical therapist. He cooperated with them extremely well. He always does but this was exceptional. His Physical Therapist kept saying, “Evan you are amazing!” Finally she, who is usually kinda quiet, turned to me and said, “When you first brought him in here (last June) I never would have imagined he would ever walk independently. Oh, I made the goals but I didn’t think it. Now, I don’t think we can limit Evan. There just seems to be no limit to what he can do.” I practically floated on air out of there. He is walking up to six steps at a time now.

Also it was only his 2nd speech therapy appointment and she said, “Oh, if only all my kids were like you. This is so great! Evan you are wonderful!” He tried to say everything she asked him to and he’s not actually talking yet (other than a word now and then when he’s frustrated) but just started trying really hard the last two weeks. I believe the Nutrivene-D, the Efalex [Omega-3 fatty acids, Ed.] and the Neuromins [a DHA supplement, Ed.] and the muscle tone formula have made a big difference along with my home therapy program.
He’s been on the Nutrivene-D most of the time since five months old and started the Efalex and muscle tone only a few months ago. Just wanted to tell everybody. It’s great when professionals agree with you about your child!

Just wanted to tell everyone that Evan (4 ½) has officially conquered walking. About a year ago he took his first step and as of yesterday he was still taking three or four or up to ten steps (counted thirteen once). Well today he is going 30 plus steps over and over. HE’S GOT IT!!!

We held off getting a wheelchair hoping this day would come. We were told he might not ever walk—due to the Spina Bifida mostly and the Down Syndrome combination didn’t help him any. Needless to say we are more than thrilled and very thankful. I have to say I credit the Nutrivene a lot and especially the tone formula which we added about fifteen months ago. The Physical Therapist saw him Tuesday walk five or six steps so I can’t wait to show her. She admitted that when she started with him she never thought he would walk but just wrote it in the goals “because she was supposed to.” He has gotten stronger and stronger every week—noticeably so, and the Physical Therapist has been amazed!

And this is a kid with Spina Bifida and Down Syndrome and a clubfoot which has been repaired with a partially paralyzed right leg from the knee down!

I haven’t mentioned how cute my guy (4 ½) is but he really is!! He tried to jump rope the other day and was waving that rope and “jumping” all around. He thought he was doing it and was sooo cute! He tries to run and having just started getting going walking he goes down in about eight steps when he runs but I have no doubt he will run and jump rope.
