Thank you for your thoughts. I have a beautiful three year daughter who has Down syndrome and I was sickened by Emanuel's insulting and vulgar use of language, It is tragic that those who hold such high positions in our country lack the class, compassion, and common sense that you have exemplified in your article.

What a wonderful article. I have refrained from using the "R" word for years, ever since I met an uncle and a cousin who were both learning disabled and not educated. They both did the best they could and were never given the opportunity to pull themselves to their full potential. One room school houses without fully trained teachers dealing with multiple grades were not able to handle these tough situations. I admired both of them for the joy they had in their lives. My uncle laughs a lot and is always happy to see us. My cousin has passed away.
